More Updates!

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

Just in case you didn’t notice, the CFPHP website has lost the default WordPress template which has been replaced by this beautiful design by Tom Winn. If you were working on a design too, don’t worry. We still are open to any other designs that you may want to contribute. As more designs are submitted, a style switcher will be added to the top of the page so that you can always view the CFPHP website with your favorite theme.

Also, in an effort to get more content on the site, the default role of all users that sign up will be set to “Contributer”. This means that you (yes you) are able to write posts and have them appear in the blog and in the archives. If you have something to contribute, register and start posting!

O’Reilly Sponsorship

Friday, September 8th, 2006

I’d like to announce that Central Florida PHP is now officially sponsored by O’Reilly.

Some of the benefits of our new sponsorship include:

  • Review copies of O’Reilly books
  • Discounts on any materials purchased through O’Reilly (including books, tutorials, and conferences)
  • The occasional free books an promotional items to give away to members
  • O’Reilly authors as presenters at our meetings

If there are any questions or if you are interested in any of the above drop me a line and I’ll make sure you’re taken care of.

Upcoming CFPHP Meetings

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

Greetings all I just wanted to make everyone aware of the two upcoming CFPHP meetings for September and October. With the help of Pedro from Refresh Orlando, we have been able to secure a location at the Orlando Public Library (map) in downtown Orlando.

September Meeting

The September meeting will take place on September 24th at 1:30 PM and run for approximately 1.5 hours. There will be lots of announcements as well as a presentation led by either myself or Damien McKenna so this is definitely not a meeting to miss!

Please be sure to note the odd timing for this meeting. Typically CFPHP will try to schedule the meetings at 3:00 PM each month for consistancy. This month the room already was booked for the regular time so we will have to make due with a slightly earlier meeting time.

October Meeting

In October CFPHP will be unveiling a new and exciting educational program that will be very useful for members who want to take their code on to a different level. More information on this program will be given at the meeting but a sneak-preview will be given at the September meeting for those who can’t make it to both.

October will also be the first month with split tracks. If you are a developer who is still learning the basics, come check out the beginning of the meeting where a beginner-level talk will be presented. For those who have a bit more experience under their belt, come check out the advanced session which will come later on in the evening after the first presentation is finished. Although this meeting will have split tracks, it’s strongly encouraged that you come and attend both tracks as there will be valueable information given in each.
